Euphonium Player of the Year
The prestigious International Euphonium Player of the Year award was founded under the auspices of the British Bandsman magazine by former euphonium players, business colleagues and friends, Trevor Austin and Peter Wilson. As owner and Managing Editor of the magazine respectively, Trevor and Peter inaugurated the award in 1979 having discussed the idea with fellow euphonium players, Philip Catelinet (also a tubist) and Glen Call of the United States Marine Band.
The award, determined by performances, achievements and by canvassing other international euphonium artists, was presented annually during the weekend of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, eventually becoming part of its Gala Concert proceedings at the Royal Albert Hall, London. In 2000 Kapitol Media acquired the British Bandsman magazine, including its International Euphonium Player of the Year title, and continued to present the award. However, in 2004 British Bandsman was sold to the Salvation Army Trading Company and the award was presented on one further occasion before being discontinued in 2008.

The dormant award, together with its famous shield, remained the property of British Bandsman until 2021 when the magazine's proprietor, IBB Media Ltd, transferred ownership of the award to Euphonium Foundation UK.
